One of the projects that scared me the most… yet I was the most excited about doing was installing a new stair rail. The existing railing was not even close to code. I debated about hiring a craftsman to build the railing but with Google and YouTube at my side… how hard could it be.
If you are interested in installing or replacing a railing, I have a detailed blog on the complete process. It was a bit challenging, but VERY rewarding. Below are the cliff notes on the install

The fun begins
Trying to figure out where the spindles will go
Find the middle of the support pillars
Hmmm… use some homemade brackets to test fit the rail
Start from the top and work your way down

Get the next corner lined up

Second landing corner

Get the next railing lined up
Add the curved railing
Notice the top corner
Changed out the corner for one with a knob
Getting ready for the bottom swoop
Last turn
AGH!!! I’m one piece short
Added the last piece.
Now for the spindles
White spindles look nice!

The entire rail is now one piece

Staining the rail to match the flooring

One final shot of clear coat before glueing in the spindles.
