Pool Area – Putting “lipstick on a pig”
When I was growing up, the swimming pool was the center of fun. Now, the pool area is in desperate need of some TLC. The pool itself hasn’t been used for 20 years and the fencing around it is looking pretty pathetic.
I’d like to put a new liner in the pool and put it back into action… but there are tons of other house projects that are more important. So… the plan is to make it look nice… on the surface.
Step 1 – Cover the pool. Over the years, the bottom of the pool has been overrun with weeds and garbage has blown in. We cleaned it out and put down some soil sterilizer.
Before we put the cover on, we put nylon rope crisscrossing the pool. We needed something to support the cover since there is no water in the pool.
Then we drilled the holes to anchor the cover to the cement.
Step 2 – Take down the old fence surrounding the pool and put up new inexpensive vinyl fence. (I ended up using 4 x 8 sheets of white vinyl trellis.) I was able to transform an awful looking fence to a pretty nice one for 1/10th the price of actual vinyl fencing. (When we re-do the pool area later, I’ll put up actual vinyl fencing.)
The pool area looks 100% better!
