We are going to have some FUN with the master bathroom. Located off the master bedroom, this bathroom will have dual sinks, a separate shower/toilet compartment, hidden mirror TV, and oodles of storage. During our last remodel of our current house, we added a TV behind the mirror. It is pretty cool. We can watch the news while getting ready in the morning or evening....
I’m excited about having a walk-in kitchen pantry. The plan is to take the large bathroom off the dining room and dividing it up into three separate spaces. A small 1/2 bath for visitors, a ensuite bathroom off the second downstairs bedroom, and a pantry off the kitchen. It pencils out… but hopefully, it will work out I love the look of barn doors and...
The upstairs master bedroom is going to serve a dual purpose. My wife is going to be using it as her sewing room but we also want to use it as a bedroom for guests. Space for sewing and a bed for sleeping… a murphy bed seemed like the best option. Most of the time there will be plenty of room for sewing and cutting...
One of the projects that scared me the most… yet I was the most excited about doing was installing a new stair rail. The existing railing was not even close to code. I debated about hiring a craftsman to build the railing but with Google and YouTube at my side… how hard could it be. If you are interested in installing or replacing a railing,...
I have been a techie since I purchased my first computer, a Commodore PET, in 1997. I paid $800 for a computer with a 9 inch black and white monitor, a cassette tape storage drive, and a chicklet style keyboard. I upgraded the memory to a whopping 8K.Below are some of the technology gizmos and gadgets I have currently added to the house or are...
The bathroom upstairs had not been used for over 30 years. It was used as a catch-all junk room and was in desperate need of an upgrade. We used an original antique dresser from the house for the bathroom vanity. We chose a toilet with the tank mounted on the wall. We a visitor uses the large bathtub, they have a great view of Mt....
The upstairs master bedroom features a five window turret. The views of the countryside and vineyard are amazing. This is the room that started the entire upstairs remodeling project. See the post – Upstairs Master Bedroom – Construction/destruction Begins The pictures below chronicle almost a year’s work. When the house was built, my great grandpa put a hidden closet under the steps in the entryway. The house was remodeled in the 60s and the open stairway leading upstairs was closed in. The hidden closet was covered with a real closet. During the remodel, we opened the stairway back up. This exposed the hidden closet door again. But, because of the structural reinforcing...
I go out in the hot tub almost every night. A must have for the new house is a hot tub. I’d like to add a door from the master bedroom to a deck for the hot tub. A outdoor, frost-free faucet nearby would be nice. Here are a few of the other things I was thinking about. EcoSpas have a hot tub that is...
My great grandfather, Elmer Ferson, built this beautiful house in 1895. My grandmother and my mom were both born in the house and it was my childhood home. The home is situated on the top of a hill surrounded by a grape vineyard. My great grandfather called the farm “Mountain View” because of it’s unobstructed view of Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams. Although it has...
